Ben and I worked all last week. Jim and Jenny did a couple of day outings - Brighton and the Bluebell Railway - but mostly just took it easy after their exciting and eye-opening time in Africa! They've had a bit of a look around Crawley and we've also been very lucky to get some of our shopping, ironing and sewing repairs done!! On Thursday night Matt and Kat came for tea, so that was an excellent night.
On the weekend we went to convention, which was a couple of hours west of here. Due to all the other things going on at the moment, we could only make it for the weekend, but it was absolutely wonderful! Very special days. Plenty of Aussies there too - some on the staff included Colin S (Brazil), Neil M, and Rachel T (Hungary).
On the way, we drove along the motorway that goes right past Stonehenge. Some may recall our surprise glimpse of Stonehenge last year, silhouetted fleetingly against the distant city glow late at night - click here for the blog entry (scroll to last paragraph). This time, however, it was daylight and we actually saw the tourist signs beforehand, so it was very exciting to see it for real! More about Stonehenge in a moment.
Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, we went for a walk in a beautiful green field near the grounds, where we saw buttercups, a fairy ring, and a big burnt out hollow tree. See photos below!
Heading home last night, we went past Stonehenge again and this time we decided to turn off the highway and have a proper look. It's daylight until quite late here this time of year, so we were there probably around 9:30pm but were still able to take some reasonable photos. We couldn't go inside the perimeter fence, but we were still only 80m or so away from the main stone circle. It was awesome to see!
Today Ben and I both had assignments due. He had already done his but I had the day off to work on mine, as it was actually an "at home" exam that was only made available to download last Wednesday. Ben has another two assignments but that was my only assessment until our June exams.
Tomorrow afternoon we fly to Cork in the Republic of Ireland, then over the next 5 days we'll work our way up the coast to Dublin. On Sunday night we fly from Dublin to Edinburgh in Scotland, where we've got 4 days to explore the city and the Highlands before flying home on Thursday night. We may have a little net access along the way, and, as always, will be glad of your emails and comments etc. :) Have a great couple of weeks!
