Olympic torch relay (through Ben's lens)...

Yesterday one of the engineers from my office (Joel) had the chance to run with the Olympic torch. He was chosen to represent BCIT (the British Columbia Institute of Technology), which is just up the street from our office. This also meant that the ~300m leg of the relay that he ran was just a little ways up the hill from our office. Needless to say, most of our office turned out to see him!



Joel's run was right outside of the main BCIT campus, so there were huge crowds in all directions well before there was any sign of Joel or the torch.



The crowd got even thicker and rowdier as we started to see signs that the torch was on its way, and when Joel arrived to wait for his run, he was swamped with adoring fans (including Lorena, the facilities manager at our office)!









As the previous torch-bearer approached, one of the security staff had to unlock and switch on the fuel system in the torch:



And soon he was alight, and on his way!
